EVOLUTION OF ZINFANDEL TOUR OPCIJA TOURS

Winemaking on Hvar has been around for about 2000 years, with the Greeks bringing the knowledge of winegrowing while setting up a colony named Pharos (now called Starigrad). On the heels of the discovery that the most widely planted grape varietal on Hvar Island-Plavac Mali is actually an offspring of a world famous Zinfandel grape (also traced back to Kastela just outside of Split and is actually called Crljenak Kastelanski), international interest in Hvar wines has exploded.

First stop on the tour is a small cellar just outside of Jelsa that belongs to the Dubokovic family. Ivo, the head winemaker is working as a full time marketing professor while all of his love and free time go into making some of the best Croatian wines. A flight of wines at Dubokovic winery leaves people speechless. From interesting and unusual whites, huge and powerful reds to sweet and special desert wines you are guaranteed to leave the cellar delighted (and probably a bit tipsy).

Next we visit the biggest and most successful winemaker on Hvar, Andro Tomic. His state of the art winery and Greek inspired tasting room are a must see and the wine and delicacies pairing prepared by the staff of the winery is one of the most interesting experiences a true wine and food lover can have.

After visiting the wineries and pouring more than a dozen different wines into yourself, we will make sure you relax and savor the sounds and the tastes of Hvar on a wine paired lunch on one of our exquisite locations on Hvar.

Just like you will eat Turkey for Thanksgiving dinner in the USA, you will eat Pasticada on Christmas, weddings and special occasions in Dalmatia. This dish is the ultimate Dalmatian pleasure. In a region full of fresh seafood, signature dish is a slow cooked, marinated beef served with freshly made gnocchi and delicious red wines from the area. We will get you to pick the vegetables, cut the beef, simmer and cook it, get your hands in the dough for some wonderful gnocchi and enjoy the fruits of your labor. Each house has a secret recipe of its own so we will take you to a small village outside Split where our host makes her magic happen, and while the beef is slowly stewing, we will take a tour of her husbands wine cellar and vineyard to learn about Dalmatian wine.

The Heart of the Adriatic cooking class represents the high end of our gourmet thrills. You can experience the most genuine people and food when it comes to Dalmatian lifestyle and tradition. Our host is a 70+ year old fisherman, still bursting with energy, interesting stories and fantastic cooking skills. First we visit island St. Clement in front of Hvar town where you join our host in his morning fishing adventure. He always says that whatever we eat there was swimming the night before. After you take the nets out and sort the fish we can take a swim and snorkel in a crystal clear sea around Paklinski islands. Later we cruise to Hvar town for a relaxing walk through this medieval marvel. Short cruise back to St. Clement where our host guides us through a process of cleaning fish, preparing seasonal vegetables, tasting other Dalmatian delicacies and grilling your catch. Offer here depends on the season, so don´t be surprised by fresh artichokes handpicked from the garden on the estate. Oh, the wine and olive oil, our host produces both wine and olive oil from his own island vineyard and olive trees. This is a full day program, sometimes the day is just too short.

OUR ORIGINAL PROGRAM-Horseback riding in a village deep in Dalmatian countryside is a cool way to spend a day. This is your chance to climb on the back of these magnificient creatures. Roughly 30 horses can be found on this property. Ranch is a fantastic place for children, equipped with small football terrain, local Balote game field and a lot of places for kids to spend their energy. This program starts in the afternoon and starts with the host explaining all about the ingredients and the food preparation process. All the dishes will be prepared in a traditional manner, i.e. without electricity and modern kitchen appliances but with the help of a fireplace and water coming from the local well. For the first time, Game of Thrones filmed in the seaside city of Split, Croatia. The historical beauty of Split is the perfect backdrop for Daenarys Targaryen as she moves closer to the iron throne. The Game of Thrones Tour includes an excursion to 3 filming sights plus a traditional dining experience. Take a walk along the Game of Thrones sets within the walls of the 1700-year-old Diocletian’s Palace in the heart of Split. You’ll weave through the same narrow walkways as Daenarys and retrace her steps high above Split at the Klis Fortress. Built into a rocky ridge, the fortress overlooks all of Split, the Adriatic Sea and surrounding islands. It is the perfect place to be at sunset. Next, you’ll visit a 700 year old still-operational historic watermill on the Zrnovnica river frequented by Daenarys’ army of Unsullied and her slave girl, Missandei. At the end of the tour, you’ll be treated to a traditional Croatian meal at this actual filming set beside the river.
